Let’s Talk About the Weather exhibiting artist Sammy Baloji talks about his recent works, and the relationship between the exploitation of land and laborers and the exploitation of images and discourse.
Sammy Baloji is a photographer from the Democratic Republic of Congo. His photographic and video work explores the cultural, architectural, and industrial heritage of the Katanga region of Congo. In order to question official versions of Belgian colonial history, he has researched widely in various museum archives, including the Royal Museum for Central Africa in Tervuren, Belgium and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, USA. In 2015, his work was shown in the 56th Venice Biennale All the World Futures (2015); the Belgian Pavilion Personne et les autres; and the 13th Lyon Biennale La vie moderne.
