Zeina Arida, Director
Zeina Arida’s career in the Lebanese cultural sector spans over twenty years. From 1997 to 2014, she was the director of the Arab Image Foundation (AIF), where she set up, managed, and engaged in various artistic and photographic preservation projects. She also served as a board member of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) from 2006 to 2012, and was a member of the Prince Claus Fund Network Partner Committee from 2007 to 2013. She has been a member of Beit Beirut’s Scientific Committee since 2010.
Elsa Hokayem, Assistant Director
Before joinging the Sursock Museum, Elsa Hokayem was the Operations Manager of EFG-Hermes’ Lebanon office, and the executive assistant to the managing director of the Carlyle Group’s MENA Fund. Elsa holds an MA in Anthropology and Development Studies from Université Saint-Joseph (USJ) in Beirut, Lebanon, and an MBA from the MBA International Paris (MBAIP) joint program between USJ, Dauphine Universite Paris, and L’IAE Paris–Pantheon Sorbonne. She worked for several years in the field of development and culture with the Regional office of UNESCO and the Lebanese Ministry of Culture.
Yasmine Chemali, Head of Collections
Yasmine Chemali graduated from the École du Louvre with a focus on preventive conservation and Islamic arts. From 2011 to 2014, she was the collection manager of The Fouad Debbas Collection, a photographic collection comprising over 30,000 images from the Middle East from 1830 till the 1960s. She is also a member of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). At the Sursock Museum, Yasmine is responsible for studying the collection, and ensuring that it is kept in optimal climate-controlled conditions for its preservation.
Nora Razian, Head of Programs and Exhibitions
Before joining the Sursock Museum, Nora Razian was curator of public programs at Tate Modern and Tate Britain from 2009 till 2015. She has also taught at Goldsmiths' College Center for Arts and Learning. As Head of Programs and Exhibitions, Nora curates the Museum’s temporary exhibitions, public programs, and film program, and initiates collaborations with other arts organizations.
Sasha Ussef, Programs and Exhibitions Officer
Sasha Ussef received a Masters in Planning (MPL) and an MA in Art and Curatorial Practices in the Public Sphere from the University of Southern California in 2015, where she researched a series of spatial art projects in Lebanon. In her capacity as Programs and Exhibitions Officer, Sasha works closely with the Head of Programs and Exhibitions to plan, research, develop, and produce the Sursock Museum's contemporary exhibitions and public programs.
Muriel N. Kahwagi, Head of Communications
Muriel Kahwagi completed her graduate studies in Comparative Literature and Film at Goldsmiths, University of London, with an emphasis on postmemory and literary production in exile. Her writing has appeared in Kalimat, Rusted Radishes, and Moussem Journa(a)l. At the Sursock Museum, Muriel manages the Museum’s online presence, press relations, and publications, as well as outreach work done by the Museum.
Rowina Bou-Harb, Library and Archive Officer
Rowina specialized in photography and musicology at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK). She was previously the archivist and media officer at Hiba Al Kawas International Inc., as well as the library manager at Espace SD. At the Sursock Museum, Rowina provides research assistance and access to archival materials to the public, and is responsible for the digitization of the Museum’s archives.
