International Archives Day 2018
Saturday 9 June 2018, 13:00 to 18:00
Free admission
The Sursock Museum is taking part in International Archives Day, a worldwide event where archival institutions open their doors to the public, offering guided tours and showcasing works from their collection.
To mark this occasion, we have extended the archival display "In the Archive of Richard A. Chahine," on view at the Sursock Museum Library.
The documents exhibited here – photographs, press cuts, and artist folders – highlight some of Chahine's extensive research on Lebanon’s and the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Chahine, who generously donated his archive to the Sursock Museum in 2015, is a local antiquarian and gallerist. Over three decades, he gathered comprehensive documentation about the cultural landscape of the region.
Richard A. Chahine’s archive is available for consultation at the Library.
About International Archives Day:
Initiated in 2007 by the ICA International Council on Archives, International Archives Day is celebrated on June 9 worldwide. It seeks to raise awareness regarding the value of archival preservation and the work of archivists.
