QUARTO: Durational Rope
Wednesday 26 April 2017, 19:00 to 21:00
Free admission
Durational Rope is a performative exploration, in which the artist duo QUARTO use a kilometer-long rope to challenge the limits and capabilities of the human body. In this two-hour performance, the rope is manipulated to generate a vocabulary of movement between the body and the rope, articulated through constant motion. The physical exertion, on the verge of the unbearable, gradually peels away notions of body and object, ego and drama.
QUARTO is an artist duo founded in 2003 by Anna af Sillén de Mesquita and Leandro Zappala. Based in Stockholm, they live between Brazil and Sweden and collaborate with other artists, researchers, academics, and institutions devoted to research and development in the arts. This permanent dialogue in-between two countries forces QUARTO to deal with different working conditions, politics, economies, cultures, and infrastructure, producing a challenging and impermanent nomadic lifestyle that filters through their works.
